Battery Safety Recall

Does your battery have a green tab or a blue tab?

If it has a green tab, a replacement battery has been ordered for you (whether you have been having issues or not). Once you receive the new blue tab batteries, you MUST follow the shipping instructions to send back the green tab batteries (if you don't send them back ASAP you will be charged for them).

What is the part number of the affected battery?
The part number on the battery label is: 21-62960-02.

What is the underlying issue with the battery?
An independent testing laboratory, retained by Symbol, has determined that the likely root cause of the incidents was an internal cell fault of one of the two cells in the battery pack.

What changes were made to the new battery to ensure this problem will not occur with the replacement batteries?
Symbol moved to a different cell provider and the new cell is approved by the Motorola Product Safety Group. The new cell has gone through months of rigorous testing by the battery supplier, Symbol, and Motorola Product Safety.

Will it be easy to identify the replacement battery from the ‘-02’ battery?
Yes. Currently on the release tab for the MC9000-S battery there is a green label, we will be changing that to a blue label on the replacement batteries to make it easier to identify.

There are a few distributors using the new blue tab batteries, please post your comments about your experience with the new blue tab batteries.
